DAYA News Bureau, 25th September 2022: Social welfare organization Durgapur Adda Young Association (DAYA) celebrated Ishwarchandra Vidyasagar’s 203rd birthday by undertaking a weeklong effort. The main aim was to highlight the much lesser known aspects of the life of the great social reformer Vidyasagar.
Starting 21st September DAYA members held programmes in three different schools of Durgapur. On 21st September DAYA organized a programme at the Durgapur TN High School, on 22nd September at Jemua Vadubala High School and on 24th September at Bidhannagar Government Sponsored Girls High School, with students of class VIII, IX and X.
During the two hour long programme, in all the three above mentioned schools, members of DAYA presented a theatre, “Nittosmaroniyo Ishwarchandra”. The theatre was written, directed and performed by the members of the organization. The focus of the theatre was to spread the fact that Ishwarchandra Bandopadhyay, was not merely an ocean of kindness and knowledge but a man who had been a great social reformer whose reforms were to educate the common people in its true spirit. 150 to 200 students were present in each of these schools.
After the theatre performance in all the three schools, a set of question were presented to the students who witnessed the theatre. The questions were to judge as to how successful we were, to instill among students those qualities of Ishwarchandra which are deliberately kept concealed. The top 20 were to be awarded in the main function to be held on 27th September at the ‘Netaji Bhaban’ in Durgapur Steel Township.
DAYA initiated a signature campaign to declare the birthday of Pundit Ishwarchandra Vidyasagar as the “Mass Education Day”. Signature campaign has been undertaken in all the three schools and the plan is to collect at least 10,000 signature in support of the demand.
DAYA presented a commemorative gift to all the three schools.
