Durgapur News Bureau, 13th June 2023: One of the most versatile Benagli stage actor Utpal Dutta’s all time great play ‘Barricade’ was staged at the Srijani Auditorium in City Centre Durgapur by Chakdah Natyajan on 11th June 2023. The event was organized by social organization Durgapur Adda Young Association (DAYA) in order to raise funds for its three continuing projects, Sinchon, Jeebanpath-1 and Jeebanpath-2.
More than 1300 people (many of whom sat on the floor ) watched a wonderful presentation for 2 hours and 40 minutes; acting, scenography, light and sound projection took the audience to a new height.
Commemorating the 50 year of the play ‘Barricade’, present day well known theatre director Debesh Chattopadhyay designed the new age screen play of ‘Barricade’ which was staged by the theatre group, ‘Chakdah Natyojon’. Many familiar faces like Sanjeev Sarkar, Kamal Chatterjee, Rudratej Sengupta, Suman Pal, Sauvik Majumdar played lead roles in the play.
The teaching of the Barricade play, “It is better to die standing than to live on your knees”, a call to educated people, if you remain silent today against the injustice done to others, tomorrow you too will be the victim of the same injustice, so barricades should be built against all injustices today; It is this education that Durgapur Adda Young Association is working towards spreading among the next generation through their three successive initiatives, Sinchon, Jeebanpath-1 and Jeebanpath-2.
The huge success of the play ‘Barricade’ will definitely help Durgapur Adda Young Association financially in carrying out the huge expense of its three pet projects.
