DAYA News Bureau, 8th September 2022: Trinamool activists-supporters blocked the national highway in Durgapur yesterday to protest the CBI raid on Bengal Minister Moloy Ghatak’s house. The protest program was led by former mayors, former mayors in-council members of the Durgapur Municipal Corporation. Members of Trinamool Lawyers Cell of Durgapur Sub-Divisional Court also participated in this protest program.
During the busy time of the day, heavy traffic jam was created in the area due to the protest program of blocking National Highway-2. The blockade was however lifted at the request of the police.
The protesters alleged that Malay Ghatak is being harassed using ED and CBI. They said, that BJP is harassing the entire Trinamool leadership by using not only CBI but central agencies ED and CBI.
Meanwhile, due to the blocking of the national highway, severe traffic jams were created in the area. Cars stood on both sides of the road. Passengers were in extreme distress. High atmospheric temperature and intense humidity made things unbearable. Police from City Center Outpost and Durgapur Police Station rushed to the spot after receiving the news.
They repeatedly requested the protesters to lift the blockade; this blockade program continued for about 20 minutes. Eventually, the protestors lifted the blockade and after that the traffic was gradually normalized by the police.
Incidentally, the CBI officials raided around 7 places including Kolkata and Asansol this morning. CBI officers raided the house of state law minister Moloy Ghatak. Detectives raided both his houses in Asansol, in connection with his alleged involvement in the coal smuggling case. Trinamool activists-supporters staged a protest against the CBI outside Malay Ghatak’s house, raising slogans in the name of the minister. Even Anubrata Mandal, sitting in jail, heard the news of CBI raid on Malay Ghatak’s house and commented, it is very bad.
It didn’t end there though, the ED summoned the minister to Delhi hours after the CBI raided Malay Ghatak’s house. Malay Ghatak gave skip to ED call earlier. He has been summoned to Delhi next week for questioning in the coal smuggling case.
