On 26 January 2022, social organization Durgapur Adda Young Association (DAYA) celebrated “Sinchon Dibos” in success of their indigenous ‘Sinchon’ project and inclusion of 5 new class V students in academic year 2022.
Here it needs to be mentioned that ‘Sinchon’ is a self-designed initiative of DAYA, by virtue of which the organization has been taking all the responsibilities (schooling, accommodation, food, study, clothing, sports, etc.) of 5 meritorious students of class V, from socio-economically weaker families and vows to carry out the responsibilities till they pass out class XII.
The ‘Sinchon’ initiative started in 2018 and currently there are 22 students under the project’s umbrella.
On the occasion of ‘Sinchon Dibos’, the members of the organization performed ‘Hridayer Ekul Okul’, a collage of songs, poems, commentary and instrumental music.
Growing under the umbrella of the ‘Sinchon’ project, students from fifth to ninth grade from socio-economically backward families presented “Lockdowner Kaalo Diinguli” (Black Days of Lockdown), an amalgamation of acting, song and description of those miserable days. The whole presentation by these boys stunned everyone and brought back the miserable memory of lakhs of migrant workers walking down the road to return into village home.
The organization also published a book, in Bengali “Salil Biswaskay Jemon Dekhechi” (As I Saw Salil Biswas) in memory of Salil Biswas, one of the two men who planned the teaching methodology of ‘Sichon’ project, on the line of Brazilian educationist and philosopher Paolo Freire. Salil Biswas- widely regarded as the forerunner in spreading the thoughts of Paolo Freire in India passed away on May 21 last year.
Debashis Sarkar, a longtime close aide of Salil Biswas apart from discussing on Paulo did an onstage live demonstration to show how the idea of Paulo needs to be carried out and how it actually works.
Dr. Bikash Mondal, a leading orthopedic surgeon of Durgapur and Mr. Surya Kesh, owner of Dreamland Nursing Home near Durgapur Railway Station was felicitated for their enormous support in carrying out the operation of a broken bone of ne of the class V student of ‘Sinchon’ project.
