On New year Durgapur Adda Dole Out Blankets- Study Materials

New Year time as we all know is time for fun, enjoyment, picnic and many more to welcome a whole new year. Durgapur Adda Facebook group members chose to celebrate the arrival of the ‘New Year’, 2016 on a very different note.

This being ‘winter’ time, temperature in the industrial town of Durgapur at times touches a low of 6-7 degrees as well. Reports of old people dying in this chilling weather isn’t uncommon as well.

With limited resources, Durgapur Adda Facebook group members decided to distribute new and good quality blankets among elderly people. 

It came to the notice of the members of Durgapur Adda Facebook group that in a village within 4 Km from Fuljhore more in Durgapur, is a village named ‘Dangapara’ where most of the villagers are extremely poor and earns their livelihood by begging.

On 1st January 2016, Durgapur Adda  distributed 120 new blankets among the real needy elderly people living in the village. A thorough survey was done beforehand by members of Durgapur Adda to ensure that those who are in real need gets the blanket. Along with blankets everyone was also given sweet packets.

Study materials, that included copy, pen and pencil were also distributed among the school going students of the village.

It was indeed a joyful sight to see so many happy and smiling faces on the ‘New Year’ day.

On 2nd January night Durgapur Adda Facebook group members visited Durgapur railway station at around 11:30 pm and distributed blankets among the people who were sleeping on the platform and outside. Around 30 blankets were distributed and honestly those who got the blankets were shivering in cold. It was a different kind of experience for us and gave us the real taste of working at ground zero level.
