During Durga Puja days of 2017, Durgapur Adda Young Association (DAYA) in an attempt to pay homage to the distressed elderly women and kids organized a programme, ‘Shraddhanjali’.
On the morning of 28th September 2017, which happens to be the ‘Maha Astami’ of Durga Puja, when common people are flocking at the puja mandapa giving pushpanjali, DAYA members distributed new saris and clothes among the slum dwellers.
DAYA members gathered at the ‘Pakmara Basti’ adjacent to S N Banerjee of Durgapur Steel Township at about 7 am and distributed New Sari and Shirts among 30 odd people. From here the members went to ‘Dasir Bandh Colony’ in Raghunathpur and distributed new sari among 30 elderly women and shirt-pant among 20 kids. Finally, DAYA members went to Sagarbhanga Colony and distributed new sari among 20 old women and new shirt-pant among 20 kids.
Sweets were distributed among all those present at each of the places.
A survey team had visited the three above mentioned places beforehand so as to make a proper list. It was an absorbing day for all the DAYA members; seeing smile in so many faces for whom life is miserable, made all feel the essence of happiness.
