On the evening of 15th August 2020, social welfare organisation, Durgapur Adda Young Association (DAYA) organized a Virtual Live Concert, titled ‘Swadesh’, with two main objectives in mind. 15th August happens to be the ‘Foundation Day’ of the organization as well.
The first objective was to provide financial assistance to the talented artists of Durgapur and adjoining areas who had lost their livelihood due to covid lockdown. The second objective was to provide financial assistance to the students of socio-economically weaker families who have shown excellent performance in this year’s Madhyamik Exam.
An appeal to the common people was made: “Although it doesn’t cost you anything to watch a Live Concert on Facebook page, you have to spend a minimum of 100 rupees for a hall concert ticket; we request you to donate least 100 rupees in our account thinking you are buying a ticket”. The response was lukewarm.
Durgapur Adda Young Association handed over letters of commendation and financial assistance to 16 talented artists of Durgapur, who have been in a very bad shape because of Corona lockdown. Twelve students who have scored excellent marks in this year’s Madhyamik examination but hails from socio-economically weaker families were given certificates and gift coupons worth Rs. 3000 each for buying books which they require in Class XI and XII.
We don’t know how many people have taken such an attempt before through Facebook without using any commercial platform or live streaming. It should be kept in mind that the artist sang along with multiple musical instruments in this program, so it was a great challenge to broadcast for three hours while keeping the sound quality intact. In the age of Jio-Airtel, we relied on BSNL and the broadcast went uninterrupted for three consecutive hours.
