DAYA News Bureau, March 01, 2025: “Progress of civilization is impossible without science” – with this belief at its core, the social organization Durgapur Adda Young Association celebrated National Science Day in an innovative way. For the past seven years, this organization has been actively observing this special day with the primary goal of fostering scientific temperament among students and raising awareness against superstitions and blind beliefs.
This year’s event was held on February 28,2025, at the Ankuron Science Center in Bidhannagar, where 199 students from 12 schools in Durgapur participated. The program included hands-on science workshops for students from grades 8 to 10, allowing them to engage in practical experiments and explore the wonders of science.
A highlight of the event was an interactive session led by Dr. Amal K. Kumar, a renowned chemist, who demonstrated the process of producing essential gases like hydrogen, oxygen, carbon dioxide, ammonia, and hydrogen sulfide. Unlike conventional theoretical discussions, this initiative focused on experiential learning, making science more accessible and engaging for students. Each participant received a special chemical kit with a gas dispenser, enabling them to conduct further experiments independently and develop a deeper interest in scientific exploration.
At the end of the event, all students took a pledge to promote scientce-based rationale, challenge ignorance and superstition, and actively stand against irrational beliefs.
While science is driving progress worldwide, certain sections of Indian society are still burdened by unscientific practices and outdated beliefs. Changing this mindset requires rational thinking and logical reasoning, and Durgapur Adda Young Association is committed to inspiring young minds to embrace the power of science.
