About DAYA
Durgapur Adda Young Association (D.A.Y.A) is a social welfare organization registered under the Society Registration Act, of the Government of West Bengal bearing the no. SO-257099 of 2016-’17. With an aim to stride towards achieving equality for every citizen irrespective of his/her caste, creed, sex or religion on a science-based rational outlook, D.A.Y.A began its journey on 15th August 2015.
Aim
Mission Statement: D.A.Y.A will work for the upliftment of the downtrodden people, so as to improve their social, economical, cultural and moral conditions and develop a rational outlook based on scientific thoughts.
Vision Statement:
Durgapur Adda Young Association (D.A.Y.A) would work towards achieving equality for every citizen irrespective of his or her caste, sex, creed and religion.
Organisation Principle: D.A.Y.A will work tirelessly in achieving its mission and vision by raising funds from common people, public bodies and organisations; and under no circumstances from government and business houses directly.
Organisation Values: D.A.Y.A will nourish, nurture and develop ‘Scientific Values’ in the society.
History of Formation
History of Formation
It all began with a news portal. Just before the Durgapuja of 2011, a news portal: www.durgapuradda.com was created to carry the news of Durgapur and adjoining areas to all those who are connected to Durgapur in some way or other.
In 2012, to increase the popularity of this news portal, the Facebook group ‘Durgapuradda’ was created with the aim of using the new social platform, Facebook.
People who love Durgapur started joining the group very quickly; the popularity of the Facebook group soared in no time.
In 2015, members of this Facebook group expressed their willingness to meet physically outside the virtual world of Facebook. An open call was given in the group, for a startup meeting. 17 people responded and met in July. In the meeting, an evening get-together was planned on 15th August and a social welfare activity was planned out of responsibilities towards the society and love for Durgapur.
On 15th August 2015, when people across the country were busy celebrating Independence Day, the members of ‘Durgapur Adda’ distributed food packets among the children and old clothes among the slum dwellers in seven slums of Durgapur. This was the beginning of the journey. However it must be remembered that the group was at that time named “Durgapur Adda” and it was not a registered organization.
Registration
In 2017, the organization was officially registered under the Society Act. Registration Number is: SO 256099 of 2017 –’18. At the time of registration, the name was changed to ‘Durgapur Adda Young Association’.
Here it needs to be mentioned that, according to the society act, the name needs to contain words such as Society or Association or Body or something alike.
