Hanged Worker Body Recovered From Durgapur IOC Bottling Plant

Durgapur Adda News Bureau, 16th July 2022: Hanging body of a worker was recovered from the toilet of the state-owned Indian Oil bottling plant in Durgapur. The police of the Coke Oven police station in Durgapur were obstructed by a group of protesters when they went to the spot to recover the body. The protesters were mostly workers of the plant, who were demanding compensation.

According to local sources, Kanchan Roy (58), a resident of Shyampur Colony of Durgapur, came to work on the general shift on Friday. He was the supervisor of handling department. He did not return home from the factory even though the duty was over at 5 pm. After waiting till night, family of Kanchan Roy contacted the plant authorities. After finding Kanchan’s hanging body in a toilet of the factory late at night, a report was made to the Coke Oven police station.

When the police went to the factory to collect the body, chaos started. A section of the workers demanded that the factory authorities should immediately give an assurance of compensation in this regard.

Finally, after the assurance of the factory authorities, the police recovered the body and took it to the sub-divisional hospital for post-mortem. Kanchan’s brother complained that his brother was repeatedly abused mentally and physically by the factory by the higher management of the plant. However, factory authorities and bottling plant handling Officer Himanshu Singh refused to say anything about this complaint.
