DAYA News Bureau 12th August 2022: Two ‘friends’ accused of raping a young woman by calling her to a vacant quarter at Hostel Avenue in Durgapur Steel Township have been arrested by the police of Durgapur police station.
There are several housing units under the state-owned Durgapur steel Plant (DSP) in its township area that are either lying vacant or are illegally occupied. The DSP authority has been a silent spectators to all this.
Allegedly, a young woman of Kururia Danga’s Pramod Nagar area of Durgapur police station area was called by two young men from Trunk Road slum to a vacant quarter in Hostel Avenue. Two young men named Chotu Roy and Durgesh Yadav took the young woman to the first floor of the residence, where the two men allegedly raped her in succession.
According to police sources, the incident of rape took place on August 10. A written complaint was filed at Durgapur police station after the young woman told her family members everything. The victim gave a confidential statement before the Durgapur Sub-Divisional Court Judge on August 11 and a physical examination was also conducted at the Durgapur Sub-Divisional Hospital on the same day.
The police of Durgapur police station have started an investigation. Currently, the police are interrogating Chhotu Roy and Durgesh Yadav. From initial investigation it emerges that the family living in that quarter has gone elsewhere to worship Shiva on the occasion of Shravan month. They have given the keys of the house to these two young men. Taking that opportunity, they took the young woman to the vacant apartment and raped her.
