Bengal politics has been rampant for some time now regarding corruption in teacher recruitment in the state. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is investigating a case of corruption in the recruitment of teachers under the supervision of the High Court. Multiple teachers have already been fired by the court.
Among those who lost their jobs is Sushant Kumar Chatterjee, a teacher at Nabaghanpur Free Primary School in Durgapur Faridpur Block. On the 15th of this month, the High Court has sent a list of names to the District Primary School Council office for dismissal; Sushant Babu’s name is in that list.
He was in fact the teacher in-charge of the school. Local sources said Sushant Chatterjee, a resident of Master Para in Laudoha village, before joining the teaching profession, worked on contract basis at the Faridpur Block Office in Durgapur. Sushant Chatterjee joined Andal Girls School in Durgapur on January 9, 2018 as a teacher through the TET exam. He then joined Laudohar Nabaghanpur Primary School by means of Mutual Transfer as a co-teacher in 2019. The fact, that a teacher becoming the teacher in-charge of a school in such short time also raised many eyebrows.
Regarding the matter, SI Sudhanshushekhar Chakraborty of Durgapur North Circle, said that steps have been taken as per instructions of the honorable High court order.
When media person tried to contact Sushant Chatterjee, his mobile phone remained unanswered despite many calls and later was found to be switched off. Even his house in Laudoha village was found locked from inside on Friday; however reporters who went there saw that the door of the house was locked from inside and no response was received despite many knocking in the door. As soon as the news of Sushant Babu losing his job spread, the locals gathered in front of the school. However, no one wanted to comment on the matter.
