On the morning of 15th August 2015, when the nation was celebrating its 69th Independence Day, members of “Durgapur Adda” facebook group chose to bring smiles to the faces of those who hardly know what ‘Independence’ means or what ‘Celebration’ is all about. Durgapur Adda Young Association, formed in June 2016, has its origin from the Durgapur Adda facebook group only.
Members of “Durgapur Adda” facebook group visited as many as eight different slums of Durgapur and distributed “Food Packets” among the kids living in those slums. A total of 400 food packets containing, cake, pastry, sweets and mixture was distributed.
Old usable clothes that are in good condition were also distributed among the people living in those eight slums. Proper care was taken while sorting these old clothes collected from Durgapur Adda facebook group members and fellow residents.
The big slum adjacent to DVC more was the first one visited by the members. After hoisting national flags there, food packets were distributed among the kids there.
It was indeed a mammoth task and a new experience for all of us. But the enthusiasm among all was something which gave the confidence of dreaming something big in the future.
Though the organisation had no formal shape at that time, but the atmosphere of trust among the members keep us going. The expense of the entire programme was gladly given by the members and Durgapur Adda facebook members (who couldn’t join us for the programme) also donated for the cause.
