DAYA News Bureau, May 09, 2024: This is to share an important update concerning “Sinchan” – an unique initiative of Durgapur Adda Young Association that began its journey in the academic year 2018 with the inclusion of five students from economically disadvantaged families in the fifth grade.
For those who are not familiar with our “Sinchan” initiative, here’s a brief introduction: Each year, five students from socio-economically underprivileged backgrounds are selected as they enter the fifth grade, and the Association takes full responsibility for their upbringing and education until they complete the twelfth grade. This includes their accommodation, meals, education, clothing, books, sports, necessary medicines, and all related expenses.
In 2018, five students—Arijit, Abhijit, Jeet Samanta, Noor Muhammad, and Tanuj Ganguly—joined this initiative. Unfortunately, Abhijit had to return home in the second month due to family issues, and Rup was brought in as his replacement. Later, Rup returned home in 2020, and Arijit decided to continue his studies from home in 2021.
Therefore, out of the original five students who joined “Sinchan” in 2018, along with Rup who joined later, all six appeared for the secondary school examination in 2024. Among them, three students—Jeet Samanta, Noor Muhammad, and Tanuj Ganguly—continued their education under the “Sinchan” initiative, while the other three—Arijit, Abhijit, and Rup—studied from home.
Here are the scores these six students obtained in the entrance exam conducted in 2018:
- Jeet Samanta: 37%
- Tanuj Ganguly: 37%
- Noor Muhammad: 36%
- Arijit: 38%
- Abhijit: 35%
- Rup: 29%
Among these, the first three continued under the “Sinchan” initiative and achieved the following scores in their secondary examination:
- Jeet Samanta: 80.57%
- Tanuj Ganguly: 65%
- Noor Muhammad: 68%
The last three students (Arijit Ghosh, Abhijit Ghosh, and Rup Paramannik), who continued their education from home, scored between 44% and 51%.
Their progress can be summarized as follows:
- Jeet Samanta: From 37% to 80.57% (A progress of 43% under the “Sinchan” initiative)
- Tanuj Ganguly: From 37% to 65% (A progress of 28% under the “Sinchan” initiative)
- Noor Muhammad: From 36% to 68% (A progress of 32% under the “Sinchan” initiative)
On the other hand, the three students who studied from home (Arijit, Abhijit, and Rup) showed a progress of 17% to 8%.
This comparison reflects the significant impact of growing up under the “Sinchan” initiative versus studying from home. This success is attributed to all members, well-wishers, and both direct and indirect supporters who have extended their helping hands to keep this initiative going.
Currently, 32 students are growing up under the “Sinchan” initiative, and from now on, 4-5 students will appear for the secondary examination each year under this initiative. In 2026, the first batch of students raised under “Sinchan” will take their higher secondary examination. All of this is possible because so many people have stood by our efforts as a source of strength.
