To explore Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh’s ideology, Durgapur Adda Young Association (DAYA) organized a daylong program on the occasion of his 92nd execution day on 23rd March 2022 at ‘Bidhan Bhaban’ in Durgapur Steel Township.
In the morning session DAYA organized a ‘voluntary blood donation camp’. Although 35 people showed interest in donating blood, it was not possible to take blood of 10 people due to various physical constraints, so the number of blood donors stood at 25. Of these 25 people who donated blood, 11 were men and 14 were women. On behalf of the organization, a memento was handed over to all the blood donors as token of appreciation.
The program titled “The kind of Independent India Bhagat dreamt off” started from 1:45 pm. About 200 students of 8th to 10th standard from 9 different schools of Durgapur took part in this program. The auditorium was full in the presence of the general public in addition to our members.
There were poster exhibitions and competitions for the students of the schools. There was also a call for students from all the invited schools (within a maximum of 6 minutes) to deliver a presentation on “The kind of Independent India Bhagat dreamt off”.
A total of 26 posters were submitted in the poster competition on the theme, “The kind of Independent India Bhagat dreamt off”. The top 3 award winning poster makers are from, Angadpur High School, St. Xavier’s High School, Suren Chandra Modern School (not in the order in which the names are mentioned here).
Based on the theme, “The kind of Independent India Bhagat dreamt off”, students from 8 schools performed on. The top three presentations were made by the students of the schools: Jemua Vadubala Vidyapeeth, St. Xavier’s High School, Bidhannagar Government Sponsored Girls’ High School (not in the order in which the names are mentioned here).
Jyotika Waghela, a professor of history at Raniganj Women’s College and a prominent essayist, vividly explained on the topic of the evening. Her presentation illuminates Bhagat Singh’s ideologies that set him apart from other freedom fighters. Jyotika Waghela’s clear-cut explanation made it clear, that, for Bhagat and his comrades; ‘Freedom’ meant freedom from slavery and not merely transference of state power from the British to the feudal lords.
Secretary of DAYA, Rajesh Sen outlined the fact as to why Durgapur Adda Young Association is trying to inspire the youth of today on the thoughts of Bhagat Singh and how the ongoing three projects of the organization is in sync with the thoughts of Bhagat.
This very effort of DAYA to spread Bhagat Singh’s ideology among the school students was possible because of support from the schools; hope our effort will pave the way for equality in the future.
