DAYA News Bureau, 24th March 2024: Like previous years this year also Durgapur Adda Young Association organized various day-long programs to celebrate Bhagat Singh’s self-immolation day with due dignity amd importance.
A voluntary blood donation camp was organized in the morning, in which 22 people came forward willingly but 2 people were canceled due to physical disability, 20 people donated blood including 15 men and 5 women. 3 of the blood donors donated blood for the first time. Every blood donor was given a certificate and a sapling as a memento.
In the afternoon, elocution and quiz competition were organized. A total of 9 contestants from 6 schools participated in the elocution competition titled “Bhagat Singh’s Dream India”. Two judges Mr. Dipankar Dey and Mr. Sourav Dutta selected Shravani Mandal and Stuti Mandal as the first and second runners-up respectively; both are class VIII students of Rairani Devi Girls High School. Durgapur Project Township Boys High School Class 10 student Sayon Dasgupta got the third place. Not only the first three incumbents, but several other speakers brought out the ideals of Bhagat in a new way; it is for this purpose that Bhagat Singh’s self-immolation day celebrations are organized.
A total of 48 contestants (16 teams) from 6 schools (3 in each team) participated in the quiz competition on “Bhagat and Contemporary India”. 6 teams pass the preliminary written test and qualify for the final stage. The team consisting of Piya Kshetrapal, Tisha Sen Chowdhury and Ishita Nandi of Netajinagar Colony High School won the five-round final. The team consisting of Shubra Biswas, Deep Ruidas, Abhijit Ghosh of Bidhannagar Government Sponsored Boys High School were the runners-up. Memento gifts were presented to all the members of the winning and runners-up team; all the six teams who made it to the finals were presented with saplings.
Students of Durgapur Adda Young Association’s ‘Sinchon’ initiative presented newly composed songs and poems; and within 7 minutes of their presentation two students drew a picture of Bhagat Singh.
The secretary of the organization, while explaining the reason for observing Bhagat Singh’s self-immolation day, urged the students to try to learn more about Bhagat Singh using their smartphones, which almost everyone has.
At the end of the program tiffin was arranged for all.
