On 18th May 2019, Durgapur-based social organization Durgapur Adda Young Association (D.A.Y.A) organized Rabindra-Nazrul-Sukunta Jayanti, not only to remember the three iconic Bengali writers, but also to nurture and discuss their teachings and ideology.
Historian Jyoti Waghela, who happens to be the professor at Raniganj Women’s College was the guest speaker of the evening. She discussed the relevance of Rabindranath Tagore’s literary work in the context of present day India.
D.A.Y.A president Dr. Samir RanjanBhowmik in his speech emphasized upon the need to infuse the teachings of RabindraNath, Nazrul and Sukunta among the future generation. He specially highlighted the relevance of Nazrul’s vision of a country where both Hindus and Muslims will remain in brotherhood.
Students whose entire responsibilities have been taken by D.A.Y.A under its ‘Sinchon’ project enthralled the audience by showcasing the Tagore drama, ‘TotaKahini’ and a collage of Tagore song and Nazrul-Sukanta’s poem.
Goutam Chattopadhyay, , was the guest performer of the evening, who mesmerized the audience by reciting poems written by Rabindra Nath Tagore, Kazi Nazrul Islam and Sukanta Bhattacharyay.
D.A.Y.A secretary Rajesh Sen in his short speech assured that the students under the D.A.Y.A initiative are taught to instill the high moral values of Rabindra Nath, Nazrul and Sukanta in their lives and never to compromise in order to gain monetary and positional benefits. Members of D.A.Y.A as well as their family members and friends paid respectful homage to these three stalwarts through songs and poems.
