On 11th January 2020 Durgapur Adda Young Association celebrated “Sinchon Dibos – 2020”. The programme was held at Bidhan Bhavan, Durgapur Steel City to commemorate the third year of their “Sinchon” initiative.
Through this Sinchon Project, Durgapur Adda Young Association has been taking all the responsibilities (schooling, accommodation, food, study, clothing, sports, etc.) of 5 meritorious students of class V, from socio-economically weaker families and will continue to their responsibilities till they pass out class XII.
The students are selected through 3 different phases. In the first phase a written test is conducted in Bengali, basically to understand the ability of the student to think differently. For example, questions like, write 3 sentences on one of your friend whom you don’t like are put up. 25 students are selected from this written test . Then survey team of DAYA visits each of these students’ house to survey their socio-economic condition. Based upon selected 35 parameters marks are given to each of these students.
Marks of the survey team has a weightage of 70% and the marks which these 25 students have secured in the written test has a weightage of 30%. A new merit list is prepared and 12 students are called upon at our office. A physical checkup and a mental test is being carried out for each of these 12 students. Based upon this a final 5 is selected.
Fifteen students (5th, 6th and 7th graders each) of the “Sinchon” Project captivated the audience with their presentation. The presentation of the members of the organization about the “Sinchon” project also caught everyone’s attention. Prominent musician Nitish Roy also enthralled all audiences with his magic of folk songs and folk music. Such was the attraction, that the spectators sat fascinated and listened to the song till about nine o’clock in the night, ignoring the severe cold.
