DAYA Observes Rabindra-Nazrul-Sukanta Jayanti in Bidhannagar

Durgapur Adda Young Association (DAYA), a Durgapur-based social organization in its continuing effort of fighting against all forms of communal and fundamentalist forces, observes Rabindra-Nazrul-Sukanta Jayanti so as to nurture, nourish and spread the thoughts and teachings of the three greats of Bengali literature Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore, the rebellious poet Kazi Nazrul Islam and the socialist poet Sukanta Bhattacharya.

This year the Rabindra-Nazrul-Sukanta Jayanti was held on 21st May 2022 (Saturday) at “Rabindra Nagar Puja Mandap” in Bidhannagar from 6:30 pm; the place being close to the Sinchon project Student’s boarding.  In addition to the members of the organization and students of organization’s ‘Sinchon’ project, the presence of people from the locality was quite noticeable.

Rabindranath, Nazrul and Sukanta, the three stalwarts of Bengali literature, who through their writings has shaped up the non-communal and socialist consciousness among the Bengalis, were remembered by means of songs, dances, dialogues, recitations, and audio dramas.

In the space of 24 presentations by members, students and family of DAYA’s members, various aspects of the life and work of the three thinkers who played an essential role in shaping the mindset of Bengalis to fight against religious fundamentalism were highlighted.

DAYA has been observing Rabindra-Nazrul-Sukanta Jayanti for the last 5 years so as to stretch and reach more people in propagating their compassionate ideas.

Here it must be mentioned, that the presentations of Sinchon boys, were unique in its own way. Thoughts and words of separate poems of each of Rabindranath, Nazrul and Sukanta were presented by three separate poems. For example, a nine paragraph poem, each paragraph depicting the thought of each of Nazrul poem together formed a poem, “Nazruler Bidrohi Bhabna”, being recited by a group of 6 Sinchon boys. In the same manner “Sukanter Droher Katha” and “Aamader Rabindranath” were recited by the other 2 groups. All these 3 poems were written by one of DAYA member. The legacy of these three great men must be kept alive in all possible way, so that the recent attempt of religious fundamentalism to make inroads into our society gets nullified.
