DAYA Observes International Mother Language Day

International Mother Language Day observed with due dignity by Durgapur-based social organization Durgapur Adda Young Association (DAYA). A cultural event was held in the auditorium of Bidhannagar Group Housing from 4 pm to pay homage to the 1952 language martyrs and celebrate the success of the language movement.

DAYA has been observing the International Mother Language Day with an aim to spread awareness of linguistic, cultural diversity, and to promote multilingualism. India is home to hundreds of languages and thousands of dialects which make its linguistic and cultural diversity the most unique in the world.

At the beginning of the program, members of the organization including the audience and invited artists laid wreath at the temporary Shaheed Bedi erected by the members for this purpose. Apart from different cultural groups, solo artists presented songs, poems and dances remembering the martyrs of the 1952 language movement in Bangladesh and glorifying the Bengali language. As many as 8 different cultural groups of Durgapur and 12 solo performers performed on the occasion.

A song-poem fusion presentation by the students of DAYA’s ‘Sinchon’ project and a play “Bhasha Vabna”, written and performed by the organization’s members needs special mention. All the groups and solo performers were presented with a memento by the organization.

In the morning Sinchon boys were taken to the Bhasha Udyan in Durgapur Steel Township, where they put up a song-harmonica-poem collage, which took the entire audience to their feet.
