DAYA Observes Birth Centenery of Vidyasagar

DAYA News Bureau, 28th September 2023: Social organization Durgapur Adda Young Association (DAYA) as part of the birth anniversary celebration of Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar, organized a brilliant program on 27th September 2023 (Wednesday) at ‘Netaji Bhavan’ located in A-Zone of Durgapur Steel Township, from 1:30 PM. The theme of the program, “Rationalist Vidyasagar” aimed to know and understand Ishwarchandra’s scientific spirit and logic, which has been deliberately kept under the cover of his other qualities like kindness and mercy;.

The authors of 20 essays out of 143 essays submitted on the topic “Rational Vidyasagar” for the students of class VII, VIII and IX were felicitated and the authors of the two best essays were awarded special prizes. The two essays considered the best were those by Sanchita Das of Jemua Vadubala Vidyapeeth and Soham Samant of Palashdiha High School.

The main attraction of the program was the quiz session for the students of class VII, VIII and IX on the topic “Rational Vidyasagar”; 58 teams participated in this competition. 10 teams who cleared the hurdles of the preliminary elimination round qualified for the main quiz event. The team consisting of Shubhra Biswas and Sujoy Sarkar of Bidhannagar Government Sponsored Boys High School won the four-round quiz and the team consisting of Piya Kshetrapal and Tisa Sen Chowdhury of Netajinagar Colony High School came as runners-up.

Mr. Purnachandra Mukhopadhyay, a teacher who has been researching Vidyasagar Mahashay for a long time, in his 40-minute talk on the topic of “Logical Vidyasagar” gave a wonderful speech which greatly moved the 250 plus audience present in the auditorium.

A song written and composed by members of the Durgapur Adda Young Association was performed by students of the organisation’s ‘Sinchon’ initiative. Tiffin was also arranged for everyone, at the end of the event.

The answers of the teams in the essay competition and quiz give hope that in the future traits of Vidyasagar’s character like integrity, rationality and scientific spirit will guide the students of today, who will become citizens of the country in the future and form a new India where the society will dissolve the differences of caste and religion and march forward in the path of true progress.
