Durgapur News Bureau, 21st July 2023: On 20th July “Akshay Prafulla Diwas” was organized by social organization Durgapur Adda Young Association; the main aim is to bring the thought and ideas of the two pioneers of Bengali renaissance, Akshay Kumar Dutta and Acharya Prafulla Chandra Roy, to the students.
In the presence of more than 250 students of 8th to 10th standard of 17 secondary board schools of Durgapur, supplemented by 35 teachers and around 100 more common people, the “Akshay-Prafulla Divas” program was held at “Netaji Bhavan” in Durgapur Steel Township.
The 45-minute speech of eminent writer Dr. Syamal Chakrabarty as the chief speaker kept the students mesmerized; The torch of inspiration that he lit by highlighting the life stories of the two great thinkers will surely help these students find the true path of life. Apart from the opportunity to participate in poster exhibition and competition, there was an opportunity for the students to take part in the quiz. A total of 59 posters were submitted from 17 participating schools in an attempt to highlight the biography-thought-consciousness of these two sages. Teams (3 people per team) of 10 best posters were awarded (1st, 2nd, 3rd, not in that order). The ten posters awarded were: two from Angadpur High School, two from Bidhannagar Girls High School, two from Nirjhar Day Boarding High School, two from Bidhannagar Boys High School, one from Bhiringee Girls and one from Durgapur Project Township Boys High School.
A total of 46 teams (two students per team) from 17 schools participated in the quiz; 8 teams cleared the first elimination round (written test) to qualify for the main round. At the end of five rounds of main quiz competition, Bhiringee Girls High School was the winner and Netaji Nagar Colony High School was the runners.
The kind of cooperation that were extended by the teachers of Durgapur Secondary Board schools deserves special mention; this will definitely encourage Durgapur Adda Young Association in undertaking more and more efforts that will inculcate free thinking in the society so as to develop a rationale outlook among the youths.
