DAYA News Bureau, 20th August 2023:On 19th August 2023, social organization Durgapur Adda Young Association celebrated their eighth anniversary and 76th year of independence of the country at Netaji Bhavan Auditorium located in A-Zone of Durgapur Steel Township. A minute’s silence was observed at the beginning of the program to pay tribute to the memory of Shivram Sinha, a recently deceased member of the organization.
In the presence of more than 250 people, the students of the three continuing endeavors of the organization performed three different programs. The message of the students of ‘Sinchon’, one of the three indigenous persistent efforts of the organization, “Gaon mati dur tohay chhor aye”, reminded the horrors the migrant workers faced during the time of Corona.
Students of another indigenously crafted effort of Durgapur Adda Young Association, “Jeevanpath-1” presented a small theatre, “Aamader Katha” (our Story) where they in their own way told the story of their miserable life; all those present stood in front of the ineffable question, what freedom have we been able to give them?
Students of the organization’s third indigenously crafted consecutive effort, “Jeevanpath-1” presented ‘Sarfaroz’, a dance drama evoking the oath of self-sacrifice for the country, while the song “JOY HO” on the mouth organ by the organization’s member Haimanti Karmakar evoked the feeling of patriotism.
Two newly written songs were sung by the members of the organization; the lyrics and melody of both the songs are written by the members themselves. The two songs, threw the question that the British masters are gone, but in their place, the freedom of the common people, now remains captive in the hand of the rulers; how many more years will we need more to make the countrymen really free of this bondage?
Continuing the trend of the last 7 years, Durgapur Adda Young Association this year also felicitated six boys and six girl students from socio-economically backward families who have achieved good results in Madhyamik Exam 2023; all of them were provided gift coupons worth INR 3500 as a one-time financial grant for their future studies. Apart from handing over the gift coupon, a packet of sweets and a memento, each of them was given a sapling of a tree, with which they took an oath to prevent division on the basis of caste, religion and caste in the society and in the future they will play a strong role in building a prejudice-free society. The six girl students who were felicitated were: Aditi Chandra, Sohini Adhikari, Anwesha Mandal, Rishti Bhattacharya, Shubra Garai and Priyanka Kumbhakar. The names of the six felicitated boy students are: Supriya Ghosh, Aniket Ghosh, Sauvik Dey, Shatdru Nayak, Abhijit Pal and Subhdeep Das.
Six persons associated with cremation were specially honored at the ceremony. Biswanath Saha, Prakash Mallik and Ravi Mallik working at Birbanpur Crematorium who do all the work of taking all the dead bodies to the crematorium to handing over the bones to the families of the dead, were given a memento, a packet of sweets and a daily use item by the organization; Ravi Mallik himself could not come as it was not possible for everyone to leave the crematorium. Imam Sheikh, Rahul Sheikh and Ramzan Sheikh who work at Fulbagan Cemetery, where Muslims and Christians are buried after their death, are also felicitated in the same manner.
The cover of the tenth issue of the organization’s mouthpiece ‘Roddur’ was unveiled on this occasion. Apart from the writings of literary lovers of Durgapur region, the magazine contains writings and drawings by the members of the organization and the students of Sinchon project run by the organization; the exchange rate is only 50 rupees. The article by Dr. Dipankar Sen, an eminent Orthopedic Surgeon of Durgapur, on “Club Foot” is particularly noteworthy.
The main attraction of the day’s program was the n ‘Open to All’ quiz competition on the topic “History of India’s Freedom Struggle” the objective is to convey the real history of India’s freedom struggle to the people. 28 teams participated in the preliminary elimination round; according to the rules, it was mandatory to have one student below 10th standard in each team. In the elimination round, teams have to answer 30 questions in a 20-minute written test; +4 for correct questions and -3 for wrong answers. The 8 teams with the highest marks qualify for the 5 round final quiz.
The team consisting of Jemua Vadubala Vidyapeeth Headmaster Shri Jainul Haque and his school student Megha Ghosh won the quiz while Tanuj Ganguly of Class 10 and Subhra Biswas of Class 9 of Bidhannagar Boys High School (both are students of ‘Sinchon’ project run by Durgapur Adda Young Association) came as runners. Commemorative gifts were awarded to all eight teams who qualified for the main competition of the quiz.In his speech, the secretary of the organization gave an open call to the youths to join the organization and a part of the effort to eradicate all sort of discrimination in the name of religion, caste and caste.
