DAYA Members Hit Street Raising Fund For Kerala Flood Victims

On August 2018, severe floods affected the south Indian state Kerala, due to unusually high rainfall during the monsoon season. It was the worst flood in Kerala in nearly a century, killing 483 people and directly affecting one-sixth of the total population. It is estimated that 1,247,496 people had to take shelter in camps. The flooding affected hundreds of villages and destroyed an estimated 10,000 km of roads and thousands of homes have been damaged or destroyed. Kerala government appealed the common man for financial help and started a fundraising website as well.

Feeling the suffering of the Kerala flood victims, on 26th August 2018 (Sunday), Durgapur Adda Young Association (DAYA) members hit the streets, in order to collect relief fund for the flood victims of Kerala.

Fund raising effort in Benachity Bazaar

In the morning from 10:00 am to 12:30 pm funds were raised from shopkeepers and market goers in Benachity Market and in the evening from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm fund collecting drive was taken in Junction Mall City Centre, from common people there.

Collection from Benachity Bazaar and Junction Mall amounted to INR 14,078. Contribution from D.A.Y.A members and well wishers amounted to INR 8881.

We are overwhelmed by the huge response we received from people. And it is once again proved, that humanity is not dead.
