DAYA Held Open Stage Rabindra-Nazrul Jayanti In Bidhannagar

Gurudev Rabindra Nath Tagore and Firebrand poet Kazi Nazrul Islam are not only the two greatest poet and literature personalities of Bengal, but are philosophical guide for many.The poem, novel, songs and play of these two iconic personaare still most revered and equally relevant.

In line with its thought, Durgapur Adda Young Association (D.A.Y.A) celebrated Rabindra Nazrul Jayanti on a very different note.

Madhyamik pass out students being felicitated

Apart from remembering Rabindra Nath Tagore and Kazi Nazrul Islam, D.A.Y.A chose the occasion to felicitate 10 meritorious students of Durgapur belonging to financially weaker families, who received 80% and above marks in this year’s Madhyamik Exam. Financial aid of INR 2500, a flower bouquet, a certificate of honour and a packet full of sweet were also given to each of them.

The financial aid amount was provided in the form of ‘Gift Coupon’, which they could use for buying books and study materials from a pre-designated reputed book stall in Durgapur.

Members of D.A.Y.A sang songs and recited poems of Tagore and Nazrul so as to pay their tribute for these two most revered icons. A invited group performed a ‘Shruti Natok’ on stage delivering their homage to Tagore and Nazrul. Another group comprising of 25 small children recited poems of both the poets.

In his address D.A.Y.A president Dr. Samir Ranjan Bhowmik, made an appeal to the students who were felicitated that must not forget this day and similarly must stand by the under privileged in future, in whatever small or big way possible.

D.A.Y.A secretary Rajesh Sen paying tribute to the two greatest Bengali poets ever, said that this effort of D.A.Y.A is indeed taken from the teachings of Rabindra Nath and Kazi Nazrul, who have always held the view that education is the only source of progress. The programme was held at the small ground adjacent to Bidhannagar Housing quarters towards the Durgapur Sub Division Hospital side. Eminent journalist Mr. Kanchan Siddique was present on the occasion.
