DAYA News Bureau, 22nd February 2024: The social welfare organization Durgapur Adda Young Association celebrated the International Mother Language Day on February 21, 2024 (Wednesday) with customary song-poem and thoughts at Club Santos ground, Bidhannagar, Durgapur.
It was exactly 4:45 pm in the afternoon when the ceremony began with the laying of floral wreath at the makeshift Language Martyr’s Memorial Altar. Apart from the dignitaries of various cultural organizations of Durgapur, members of Durgapur Adda Young Association, students of various projects run by Durgapur Adda Young Association (DAYA) and common people offered floral tributes at the temporary Language Martyr’s Memorial Altar with the song “Aamar Bhaier Raktaay Rangano Ekushaay February” being sung in the background by members of DAYA.
The main event starts at 5:15. In addition to 9 cultural organizations of Durgapur, 10 solo performers paid their respects to those language martyrs who died on the streets of Dhaka on February 21, 1952 in the struggle to establish the Bengali as the official language of the erstwhile Bangladesh which was part of Pakistan. The cultural groups that participated in the program were: Sanchari, Bani Manjari, Meghbalika, Sapnapchandam, Madhurima, Katha and Kavita, Katha and Kahini, Chandbani, and Shrutirangam.
The students of Jeevanpath-2 and Jeevanpath-3 centers run by Durgapur Adda Young Association presented two songs. Students of another permanent ongoing effort run by the Durgapur Adda Young Association, ‘Sinchon’, presented two different programs; the first group of students showcased their tribute by virtue of a song-poetry collage where they took the pledges to uphold the honor of the Bengali language. The second group of ‘Sinchon’ boys presented two newl songs written by Rajesh Sen and composed by Sumana Sengupta.
Commemorative gifts were given to all those who showcased their performances.
One of the highlights of the event was, of course, the fact that the members of all the participating groups and the solo artists remained seated from the start to end, watched the others’ performances and encouraged them with applause.
In a program organized by the International Mother Language Day Celebration Committee at “Bhasha Shaheed Udyan” located in B-Zone, Ispat Nagar, Durgapur, the students of Jeevanpath-1 centre run by DAYA, presented a new song, conveying the message of how important it is to ensure the survival of all the languages of the world.
