DAYA News Bureau, 28th September 2022: Social welfare organization, Durgapur Adda Young Association (DAYA) in its continuing effort to inculcate science-based rationale held a programme to celebrate the 203rd birthday of Pundit Ishwarchandra Bandopadhyay, better known as Vidyasagar. The programme was held at the ‘Netaji Bhavan’ in Durgapur Steel Township from 3pm to 5 pm, on 27th September 2022, a day after the 203rd birthday of the great social reformer Ishwarchandra Vidyasagar.
Students of Bidhannagar Government Sponsored Girls High School, Jemua Vadubala Girls High School and Bidhannagar Government Sponsored Boys High School were present in large numbers.
In the presence of about two hundred people including school students, departmental head of history department at Kazi Nazrul University, Dr. Pradeep Das, highlighted various examples from Ishwar Chandra’s life, to show his scientific spirit. Dr. Das, the guest speaker of the event further said that one of the tools of his social reform was his scientific thinking.
Secretary of Durgapur Adda Young Association, while explaining the reason for the week-long Vidyasagar birth anniversary celebration, said that they have undertaken such an extended and extensive campaign so as to bring to the fore those aspects of Ishwar Chandra Bandopadhyay’s character, that are deliberately kept hidden.
Durgapur Adda Young Association’s drama troupe ‘Dimension’ staged the play, “Nittya Smaraniya Ishwarchandra”. The drama written, directed and acted by the members of the organization depicted the absurdity of various myths and lies about Ishwarchandra Vidyasagar.
Since 2019, the Durgapur Adda Young Association has been presenting the “Vidyasagar Smarok Samman” to a person from Durgapur and adjoining areas who has been trying to instill science based rationale among the students apart from social activities. On behalf of the organization, Vice President Hon’ble Dr. Tuhin Kumar Biswas presented the 2022 “Vidyasagar Smarok Samman” to the Headmaster of Jemua Vadubala School, Hon’ble Mr. Jainul Haque for his intense actions in spreading science awareness among his students.
On 21st, 22nd and 24th September, Vidyasagar Birth Anniversary Celebrations were organized by Durgapur Adda Young Association in 3 schools, where the drama, “Nitya Smaraniya Ishwarchandra” was the main focal point of the program. Based on the messages being through the drama, a set of questionnaire was given to the Class VIII, IX and X students who witnessed the drama. The aim was to assess whether they have grasped the message we want to convey through the play. Based on the marks obtained in this written examination, the 20 people who got the highest marks were awarded on this day.
Students of Bidhannagar Government Sponsored Girls High School staged a play, “Firaay Esho Vidyasagar” to showcase the various social reforms carried out by Ishwarchandra Bandopadhyay.
