The real life story of Awdesh Yadav is so shocking and dreadful that it becomes a moral responsibility of any person to stand by him once he or she hears of it.
In 1998, Bhola Yadav, a resident of Bihar’s Katihar district had to have his left leg amputated from 4 inch below the knee due to a post-operative infection.
After getting one of his partially mentally ill sons Awdesh cured in Ranchi, Bhola Yadav was returning to his home in Katihar by train on June 2 last year. When the train arrived at Andal station late at night, Bhola was sleepy, and Awdesh got off the train at the station to drink water. At that time the train started to move. Awdesh rushed in to get on to the train and skipped into the rail line. Bhola got awakened as the train stopped at the state of commotion which the accident created.
With the help of the GRP, the seriously injured Awadesh was admitted to the Durgapur Sub-Divisional Hospital in an unconscious state. The next day, on June 3, both severely damaged legs of Awdesh had to be amputated.
Since then, Bhola Yadav and his wife lay in Bidhannagar sub-divisional hospital with their son Awdesh. This poor family hails from ‘Baghdhara’ village of Manihari police station, Katihar district.
Durgapur Adda Young Association (DAYA) members silently took the task of delivering the family with nourished lunch and dinner every day for their near two month stay in Bidhannagar SD hospital.
Durgapur based social welfare organization DAYA promised the family that they will arrange prosthetic legs (artificial legs) for the 32-year-old Awdesh.
Two doctors from the DAYA members suggested that it needs at least a year for the stump (the portion from which the legs were removed) to get a final shape; and unless the area gets a permanent shape prosthetic legs won’t work.
So after Awdesh was discharged from Durgapur SD hospital in August, last year DAYA members made necessary arrangements to send them back to their home in Katihar, but maintained a constant touch with the family.
On 6th August 2022, the family of Awdesh was instructed to come to Durgapur. A 3 member team of DAYA took Awdesh and his family to Kolaghat’s ‘Sanket Club’. There, artificial leg was arranged not only for the 2 extricated legs of Awdesh but his father Bhola Yadav’s one amputee leg as well.
Here it must be mentioned that without two legs for last one year, Awdesh has lost the balance of his body; which is quite normal. So he will be able to walk with this prosthetic leg only after he regains the balance and gets use to this system; doctors said that it will take another 4-6 months for this.
Maybe at that time this prosthetic leg has to be changed; DAYA vows to stand by Awdesh so as to make his life a bit easier.
Meanwhile Bhola Yadav has been walking with his new artificial legs quite fine.
No words to eulogize, DAYA never lags behind to stand bedside a person whoever is in crisis
