On the occasion of National Science Day on 28th February, Durgapur Adda Young Association organized a daylong event at the Bijra High School of Durgapur a day before on 27th February 2022 as 28th February being a working day it would not be possible to get permission from school authority. The main aim of the program was not only to create interest on science but also to practice the learning form science in daily life as well.
In the presence of about 250 students of class VII to XI, the first half of the program began with a slide show presentation, “Akash Cheno Anande” by Dr. Shubhashis Chirakalyan Patra, a prominent educator of astronomy; who in spite of being a doctor himself holds immense interest and knowledge on astronomy. Dr. Patra’s presentation in simple and lucid manner was very attractive and seems to have instilled interest among the students there.
In the second half, Soumya Sengupta, a well-known face of the anti-superstition movement and a full-time activist, conducted various science experiments with the aim of creating interest in science among the students present. Of particular note are the various experiments on air pressure and the theory of Archimedes. Mr. Sengupta also gave a wonderful presentation on the rational use of modern allopathic medicine and gave a very effective lesson on health awareness to all present, including the students.
Also, the cover of the eighth issue of Durgapur Adda Young Association’s mouthpiece magazine ‘Roddur’ was unveiled during the program by Dr. Patra and Soumya Sengupta.
